  1. Cathie Roemmich says:

Ignorance must be bliss. Juneau’s population is 31,000 people which is 43% of SE Alaska’s population. If the capital moved from Juneau it would lose 32% of it’s population, 29% of it’s jobs and 49% of the regional jobs, our hospital and school services would be cut in half. The older man in the video must be retired and content and I am shocked that he would wish such devastation on so many Alaskans. Shame on you all. We all love the Alaska ferry system but have any of you priced a new one? Or researched the environmental footprint that just one of our operating ferries leaves? Please educate yourselves a little better before you interfere in Alaska’s business. Better yet, take a drive on one of the stunningly beautiful highways Colorado has to offer and remember how much you enjoy the freedom of getting in your car with your family to get where ever you want to go. It is surely a good thing that you weren’t around when they were built. Sincerely, Cathie Roemmich

I concur with Cathie Roemmich 100%. If the locals in Juneau that are opposed to the road all the way to Skagway were around when Eaglecrest ski area was built we would still be hiking up Dan Moller trail to ski and driving on a two lane highway to the valley.
The road should have been built many years ago and with today’s report on the cost increases on the road, we have the SEACC’s of the world to thank….not hard to understand their delay tactics and the longer we wait, it will keep costing more…but it will still be less expensive than our ferry system and provide better year round service for decades to come.
PS Del Mar, I wear Maui Jims thank God.
